We spoke with MP Ruby Sahota, Secretary of State for Crime Combatting, in conversation with morning show host Shameel Jasvir, about the federal government’s new plan to fast-track permanent residency for 5,000 foreign-trained doctors already working in Canada. She addressed concerns about whether this new express-entry category will actually help relieve pressure on Canada’s strained health-care system, given that many internationally trained physicians still face long delays with provincial licensing, accreditation, and residency placements. We asked her how this initiative will overcome those long-standing barriers, why thousands of qualified doctors already in Canada remain sidelined, and how soon Canadians can expect to see any real impact on emergency rooms and family-doctor shortages.
