Police have identified the person who was killed in shooting on a GO bus last Sunday as a 46-year-old person from Nigeria. The incident happened on Sunday, January 4, in the Yorkdale Road and Allen Road area, where a victim died after being shot inside a bus at the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal.
The Toronto Police Service shared two updates yesterday regarding the investigation.
In the first news release, police stated that a 40-year-old Toronto man named Tyrel Gibson was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting.
In another update released later in the afternoon, TPS reported that the person who lost their life in the incident has been identified as 46-year-old Osemwengie Irorere of Nigeria.
Investigators allege that both the victim and the suspect boarded a GO bus at the terminal, where the suspect shot the victim before fleeing the scene on foot. Officers arrived and found the male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were attempted, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A short time later, officers located and arrested the suspect, and a firearm was recovered.
Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
