A Vaughan driver has been sentenced to five years in prison and banned from driving for 15 years in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in May 2024.

In September 2025, 25-year-old Harnoor Chauhan, a resident of Vaughan, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death, failure to remain at the scene of a collision, and two counts of public mischief. On December 15, 2025, the court handed down a five-year prison sentence along with a 15-year driving prohibition.

The incident took place on May 21, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., near the intersection of Martin Grove Road and Jackman Crescent. Police say a 16-year-old boy riding a mini-bike was struck by a white Mercedes-Benz, which fled the scene. The teenager later died from his injuries.

Investigators say that shortly after the collision, the driver contacted police from a nearby location in the area of Forest Drive and Dunstan Crescent, falsely claiming that his vehicle had been carjacked. A subsequent investigation revealed the report was fabricated, and police determined that the complainant was in fact the driver responsible for the fatal hit-and-run.

Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Major Collision Investigations Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7704. Anonymous tips can also be provided to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
