Two Toronto residents charged after loaded handgun seized in Scarborough

Toronto police have arrested two people and laid multiple firearms-related charges following a gun investigation in Scarborough. 

Officers with the Toronto Police Service’s Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force began a firearm investigation. On Sunday, February 8, 2026, a search warrant was executed at a residence in the Kingston Road and Galloway Road area. 

Police allege that during the search, investigators located a loaded Glock 26 9mm handgun.  

An image of the seized firearm has since been released by police. 

As a result of the investigation, Darnell Vassal, 22, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with several offences, including possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence, possession of a prohibited device without authorization, possession of a loaded firearm, careless storage of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of a firearm while prohibited. 

Iyonna Jackson-Smith, 21, of Toronto, was also arrested and faces similar charges, including possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without a licence, possession of a prohibited device without authority, possession of a loaded firearm, and careless storage of a firearm and ammunition.
