Two arrested after drug trafficking investigation in Niagara Falls

Police have arrested two people and seized drugs, cash, and weapons following a drug trafficking investigation in Niagara Falls. 

Investigators say the probe began in December 2025 after reports of illegal drug activity at a residence on Buchanan Avenue. A search warrant was executed at the home at approximately 8:00 p.m. on January 28, 2026. Two suspects were arrested inside the residence. 

During the search, officers seized 334 hydromorphone tablets with an estimated street value of $6,680, approximately 52.5 grams of fentanyl valued at $5,250, $3,651 in Canadian currency, $444 in U.S. currency, and two expandable metal batons. 

Catharine Van Bergen, 43, of Niagara Falls, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, possession for the purpose of trafficking hydromorphone, and possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5,000. 

Tyler Cormier, 32, of Niagara Falls, faces the same trafficking and proceeds charges, along with an additional charge of failing to comply with a release order. 

Both accused remain in custody and are scheduled to attend a bail hearing on Thursday, January 29, 2026, in St. Catharines.
