Toronto police seek suspect after taxi driver injured in robbery incident

Police are  seeking public’s assistance in identifying a suspect following an alleged robbery that left a taxi driver injured in downtown Toronto. 

According to the Toronto Police Service, officers responded to a robbery call on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. in the area of Front Street West and University Avenue. 

Investigators say the victim had parked his taxi on the north side of Front Street West to drop off a male passenger when the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and demanded money. During the incident, the suspect allegedly cut the victim before fleeing the scene. 

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. 

The suspect is described as about 5’8” with a medium build. At the time, he was wearing a dark jacket, cream-coloured headphones, and carrying a black backpack.
