Toronto police make an arrest in a sexual assault investigation

Toronto police have arrested and charged a Toronto man in connection with an alleged sexual assault. 

According to investigators, the incident occurred on January 15, 2026 in the area of Wellington Street West and Simcoe Street. Police say the accused is a professional poker player and the victim met him at an event he hosted. Police allege that the accused sexually assaulted the victim. 

As part of the investigation, officers executed a search warrant at a Toronto residence on Monday, January 19. A 39-year-old Toronto man, identified as Daniel Kwon, was arrested and charged. 

Kwon is facing multiple charges, including forcible confinement, sexual assault, sexual assault with choking, three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000. He was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Finch Avenue West on Monday, January 19, 2026. 

Police believe there may be additional victims and have released an image of the accused as part of the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
