The Toronto Police Service (TPS) has introduced a new three-digit number, TPS (877), to make it easier for residents to contact police for non-emergency situations. This simplified and easy-to-remember number is now available exclusively on mobile devices.
The TPS (877) service is accessible on major wireless networks including Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Freedom Mobile, and their respective subsidiaries. However, it is important to note that this service does not work from landlines or traditional phone systems. Residents using landlines, or those who experience connection issues, should continue to use the existing non-emergency number: 416-808-2222.
The launch of this new number is in response to Recommendation 25 from the Auditor General’s report, aimed at improving accessibility and enhancing public safety. More information on the Auditor General’s recommendations can be found on the TPS website.
TPS has thanked its wireless partners for supporting this initiative, which is expected to ease access to police assistance for non-urgent matters and help reduce the load on emergency lines.
