Toronto Police have announced the arrest of a man in connection with an escape from custody investigation.
According to police, on Monday, January 26 jat approximately 11:58p.m. an inmate at the Toronto South Detention Centre, located near Horner Avenue and Kipling Avenue, allegedly impersonated another inmate scheduled for release. Under this false identity, the individual was fitted with an ankle monitoring device, which was later removed at a nearby gas station.
The suspect, 32-year-old Steven Alexander Guzman Marroquin of Toronto, was wanted for several offenses, including escape from lawful custody, personation with intent, obstructing a police officer, mischief under $5,000, and theft under $5,000.
On Wednesday, January 28, at approximately 8:30 p.m., members of the Provincial ROPE (Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement) Squad located and arrested Guzman Marroquin near Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue East. Following his arrest, he was charged with escape from lawful custody, personation with intent, obstructing a police officer, mischief under $5,000, theft under $5,000, and two counts of failing to comply with probation.
Guzman Marroquin was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, January 29, at 9:30 a.m. at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, located at 2201 Finch Avenue West, in room 107.
