Three teenage males face charges after police locate a stolen vehicle in Whitby

Durham Regional Police Service has arrested and charged three teenage boys after they were located in a stolen vehicle in Whitby on Saturday. Investigators say one of the suspects is believed to be responsible for a jewellery store robbery at Peoples Jewellers in the Shops at Pickering City Centre on Thursday, January 15, 2026, as well as an attempted robbery the same day at Oshawa Jewellery in the Oshawa Centre. That investigation remains ongoing. 

Police say that at around 8:45 a.m. on January 17, 2026, officers from the Central West Division spotted a stolen Honda SUV in the area of Twin Streams Drive and Country Lane. When officers attempted to block the vehicle, the suspects fled and allegedly rammed a police cruiser. 

The stolen vehicle later crashed into a tree, and three suspects ran from the scene on foot. With assistance from the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System, K9 Unit, Tactical Support Unit, and the Robbery Unit, officers were able to locate and arrest all three suspects. 

A 16-year-old male from Whitby has been charged with multiple offences, including three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, three counts of disguise with intent, failing to stop for police, dangerous operation, leaving the scene of an accident, robbery, attempted robbery, and two counts of possessing a dangerous weapon. He was held in custody for a bail hearing. 

A 14-year-old male from Whitby has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and disguise with intent. He was released on an undertaking. 

Another 16-year-old male from Whitby faces the same charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and disguise with intent and was also released on an undertaking.
