Halton Regional Police say three people have been arrested and a fourth suspect is being sought following an investigation into a series of copper wire thefts across Milton and Halton Hills.

Police say that throughout 2025, officers responded to more than 40 incidents involving the theft of copper wire in the region’s 1 District communities. Investigators allege the suspects were cutting down telecommunications cable lines, removing the copper and selling it for profit.

In early January 2026, members of the 1 District Project Team consolidated information and launched a focused investigation into a network believed to be responsible.

Through a combination of investigative techniques, Crime Stoppers tips and frontline police work, investigators say they identified multiple suspects connected to the thefts and the sale of stolen copper.

On Jan. 30 at about 10:40 p.m., officers responded to a report of copper wire theft near Canyon Road and Campbell Avenue in Milton, where two suspects were arrested. The following day, investigators executed Criminal Code search warrants at two vehicles and two residences in Guelph and Erin. Police say tools, copper wire and electronic devices were seized, and a third suspect was taken into custody.

Police identified the accused as Brendan Boyd, 36, of Guelph, who faces multiple charges including possession of property obtained by crime, trafficking in stolen property, failing to comply with an undertaking, theft under $5,000 and possession of methamphetamine.

Benjamin Moffatt, 43, of Guelph, is charged with theft under $5,000.

Dawna Mitchell, 36, of Erin, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime, trafficking in stolen property and failing to comply with a release order.

All three were held in custody pending bail hearings in Milton.

Investigators are continuing to search for a fourth suspect, Christopher Lennon, 29, of Halton Hills, who is wanted on charges including possession of property obtained by crime and trafficking in stolen property.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the 1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
