The Toronto Police Service has announced a third arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of 8-year-old JahVai Roy in August.

On Saturday, August 16, 2025, at approximately 12:27 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Martha Eaton Way and Trethewey Drive. Upon arrival, police found an 8-year-old boy inside his home suffering from a gunshot wound caused by a stray bullet.

Life-saving measures were initiated, and the child was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The suspect or suspects fled before police arrived.

Following a detailed investigation, police previously arrested two suspects and identified three people in total. A judicial authorization to identify the young persons involved has since expired on September 24, meaning their names and photographs can no longer be released publicly.

The third accused was arrested on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Oshawa by the Durham Regional Police Service in connection with a separate investigation.

The accused faces the following charges:

First Degree Murder

Two counts of Fail to Comply with Undertaking

Breach of Probation

He was scheduled to appear virtually in court on Monday, October 20, 2025.
