A man is in custody following a suspected arson fire that broke out at a building near Yonge Street and Elmhurst Avenue late Monday morning.
Toronto police say they were called to the scene around 11:06 a.m. following reports of a fire on the third floor cafeteria of the building. The incident was quickly escalated to a second-alarm fire, prompting a large emergency response from Toronto Fire Services and police.
Fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control, and officials later confirmed the fire has been fully extinguished.
One person was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. No further injuries have been reported.
Police also confirmed that one man was taken into custody at the scene. Investigators have since determined the fire is being treated as a suspected arson, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Road closures were in effect in the area during the emergency response, and drivers were advised to avoid the area.
