York Regional Police are asking for the public’s help after a staged collision was used to carry out a carjacking in Vaughan early Friday morning.
Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit say the incident occurred around 12:40 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, in the area of Hilda Avenue and Pinewood Drive. A woman driving an Acura MDX was rear-ended by a dark-colored SUV.
Police allege that when the victim exited her vehicle to assess the damage, at least one suspect entered her Acura and drove away. The stolen vehicle then fled the area in tandem with the suspect SUV.
At least two male suspects are believed to be involved in the incident. No injuries were reported.
Investigators are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the carjacking to come forward.
Police are also seeking dashcam or video surveillance footage from the surrounding area that may have captured the suspects or the vehicles involved around the time of the incident.
