Abbotsford businessman Satwinder Sharma was shot and killed yesterday in Surrey’s Fleetwood neighborhood. The incident occurred at his construction firm, Dynamic Workforce, located at 84th Avenue and 160th Street.
The daytime shooting of a businessman in Surrey marks the city’s third homicide of the year.
According to sources, two individuals approached the site pretending to seek work before opening fire. Sharma was well-known in the community.
Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers responded to reports of shots fired near the 15900 block of 160th Street around 3:45 PM. Police state that upon arrival, they discovered a man with life-threatening injuries who later died at the scene.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has since taken over the case. Although the investigation is in its early stages and the motive behind it has not yet been officially confirmed, police do not believe this incident is linked to any other active files.
SPS has not reported any arrests yet.
It is noteworthy that in a case related to extortion, earlier on Monday night, shots were fired at O Hub, a business located at 128 Street and 70 Avenue in Surrey, and on Saturday at Reflection Banquet Hall. Both businesses belong to Satish Kumar, the president of the Lakshmi Narayan Temple.
