A 33‑year‑old man has died after being shot by police officers in Brantford, Ontario on Friday morning. Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), is now investigating the incident.
SIU said in a news release that according to initial information, officers were called to a home on Palomino Drive in Brantford at around 2:30 a.m. on Friday following a disturbance complaint involving a man and a woman. Upon arrival, Emergency Response Team officers negotiated with the man. Some time later, the police entered the home and three police officers discharged their firearms. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured woman was taken to hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries. A sharp‑edged weapon was found by police at the scene.
The SIU has begun its investigation and has assigned four investigators and two forensic investigators to this case. A post‑mortem of the deceased will be conducted on Sunday.
