Sahibzaada Toy Drive

SAHIBZAADA TOY DRIVE UNITES THE SIKH COMMUNITY TO HONOUR HISTORY AND SPREAD JOY TO CHILDREN AT SICKKIDS HOSPITAL

The Sikh community across Ontario is coming together for a powerful new initiative: the Sahibzaada Toy Drive, a province-wide campaign collecting new, unwrapped toys for children at SickKids Hospital in Toronto.

This drive, inspired by the courage and compassion of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s four sons — the Chaar Sahibzaade — bridges remembrance and seva, honouring Sikh history during a month of global celebration and generosity.

December holds deep historical and emotional meaning for Sikhs, marking the sacrifices of Mata Gujri and the Chaar Sahibzaade. The Sahibzaada Toy Drive aims to honour their courage and compassion by uplifting children and families undergoing some of life’s most difficult circumstances, carrying forward the Sikh tradition of seva (selfless service) during a time of global celebration.

Community members, organizations, and students are invited to donate new, unwrapped toys (in original packaging) at participating collection sites or coordinate larger donations via sahibzaadatoydrive@gmail.com

Sikh History and Background

Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s four young sons — known as the Chaar Sahibzaade — showed the world that courage and conviction have no age. Their story is one of resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering faith that continues to inspire generations.

They are remembered with the title “Baba” — spoken with deep love and reverence. Baba Ajit Singh Ji, Baba Jujhar Singh Ji, Baba Zorawar Singh Ji, and Baba Fateh Singh Ji watered the roots that would grow into the Khalsa — teaching us that strength and compassion walk hand in hand.

At the Battle of Chamkaur Sahib, the elder Sahibzaade, Baba Ajit Singh Ji and Baba Jujhar Singh Ji, stood against a massive Mughal army. Instead of surrendering to tyranny, they rode fearlessly into battle, giving their lives in the pursuit of justice and their faith.

In Sirhind, the younger Sahibzaade — Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji — were only 9 and 7 years old when they were offered wealth and safety if they renounced their faith. They refused. Their conviction never wavered, even as they were bricked alive — their spirits forever unbroken.

Their story reminds us that courage knows no age, faith knows no fear, and love knows no limits.

December: A Month of Remembrance and Giving

While December is a season when people around the world celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, and other holidays of light and generosity, it also marks a time of reflection for Sikhs — the month in which the Sahibzaade made their ultimate sacrifices.

The Sahibzaada Toy Drive bridges these traditions — blending remembrance with action. It invites the community to celebrate the holidays with compassion while remembering their roots, sharing Sikh history alongside universal acts of giving.
