A Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officer has been arrested in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, after an investigation uncovered his role in allowing a shipment of contraband into Canada.
Federal Policing – Central Region of the RCMP confirmed that Daniel Notarianni, who was stationed at the Queenston-Lewiston port of entry, was taken into custody in January 2026.
Authorities say he failed to follow CBSA procedures, permitting a transport truck carrying millions of dollars’ worth of opium, cannabis products, and tobacco to cross the border. The truck’s driver, Abhishek Abhishek, was also arrested and charged.
RCMP officers executed a warrant for Notarianni’s arrest on March 6, 2026. Both men face multiple charges, including conspiracy to import Schedule I drugs, drug trafficking, importation offences, possession and distribution of cannabis, and illegal transportation of tobacco for sale.
Court dates have been scheduled, with Notarianni set to appear on March 18, 2026, and Abhishek appearing earlier on March 13, 2026.
