Police are reminding residents to remain vigilant after a rise in thefts targeting public lockers at gyms and fitness facilities.

Investigators say thieves are cutting locks off lockers and stealing personal items such as wallets, debit cards, and credit cards. In several cases, the stolen cards were then used at multiple locations before victims realized they were missing.

Police are advising gym users not to leave valuables in public lockers, even for short periods of time. Wallets, debit cards, credit cards, and other important items should be kept with you or stored securely elsewhere.

To reduce the risk of theft, police recommend:

  • Removing tap or contactless payment features from debit and credit cards
  • Securing valuables in a safe location, such as a locked glove compartment
  • Keeping personal belongings with you at all times while using gym or fitness facilities

Anyone who believes they may be a victim of locker theft is encouraged to contact police and monitor their bank and credit card statements closely.
