Police seek assistance to identify male suspect in unprovoked assaults at and near Dufferin Subway Station

Toronto Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect connected to two separate unprovoked assaults at and near Dufferin Subway Station. 

Police say that on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at approximately 4:38 p.m., officers responded to the report of a stabbing in the area of Bloor Street West and Dufferin Street. 

The first incident occurred inside Dufferin Subway Station at the underground mezzanine level, where the suspect allegedly approached the victim from behind and assaulted them with an edged weapon before fleeing the scene. 

A short time later, allegedly the same suspect followed a second victim from behind near Bloor Street West and Pauline Avenue and attacked them with an edged weapon as well. The suspect fled the area on foot following the second assault. 

Both attacks are believed to be unprovoked, and the suspect and the victims were not known to each other. Both victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’6” to 5’8” tall, with a medium build and facial hair. He was last seen wearing a black hooded winter jacket, black hat, black gloves, black ripped pants, white shoes with black accents, and carrying a black backpack. 

Images of the suspect have been released.
