Police are investigating after shots were fired at the American Consulate early Tuesday morning in downtown Toronto.

The Toronto Police Service says officers responded to a call at about 5:29 a.m. on March 10, 2026, near University Avenue and Queen Street West.

Police allege a white Honda CR-V was travelling west on Dundas Street West before turning south onto University Avenue and stopping in front of the consulate building. Two male suspects then got out of the vehicle and fired several shots at the building.

Police say the suspects quickly returned to the SUV and fled the area, heading south on University Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found evidence of gunfire, including shell casings and damage to the building’s glass and door. Authorities say there were people inside the building at the time, but no injuries have been reported.

Investigators have released an image of the suspect vehicle as they continue to work on identifying those responsible. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with potential witnesses.

Anyone who was in the area, particularly University Avenue between Queen Street West and College Street, between 4:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., or who may have video or dash-camera footage, is asked to contact investigators.

Anyone with information can call police at 416-808-2510 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or online at 222tips.com.
