Mississauga, ON – Peel police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man accused of spitting on a Tim Hortons employee and hurling racial slurs in what investigators describe as a “hate-motivated assault.”
The incident happened around 6 a.m. on July 19 at a Tim Hortons on Lakeshore Road near Lakefront Promenade in Mississauga.
Surveillance video shows the man, wearing an orange or red shirt resembling a Coca-Cola logo, grabbing an item from behind the counter before telling the worker to “get out of my face.” Moments later, after being handed a coffee, he yelled, “go back to India you cockroach,” and appeared to spit at the employee.
Police say the victim, a woman, was not physically injured but left shaken.
The suspect is described as a white man, heavy build, wearing a baseball cap, orange/red shirt with white writing, dark pants, and light-coloured shoes. He was last seen leaving in a white four-door Ford commercial truck with a black dump chassis.
Investigators are reviewing video from surrounding cameras to identify the vehicle’s licence plate.
“This clearly has ulterior intentions that go beyond just having a bad day,” Const. Tyler Bell-Morena told CP24. “This is not becoming behavior of an adult, or anyone in Canadian society.”
Police are urging anyone with information to contact them or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
