Ontario – Peel Regional Police have arrested more than 130 individuals and laid over 2,100 charges as part of a major street racing crackdown in the GTA known as Project ERASE (Eliminating Racing Activities on Streets Everywhere).
The joint enforcement campaign, which ran throughout May and June 2025, targeted high-risk driving across Peel Region and other hotspots in the Greater Toronto Area. In total, 684 vehicles were investigated, and nearly 100 vehicles were seized.
Project ERASE is a coordinated effort involving Peel Regional Police, Ontario Provincial Police, Toronto Police Service, York Regional Police, Halton Regional Police, and Hamilton Police Service. The initiative is focused on curbing stunt driving, illegal street races, and car rally events through high-visibility enforcement.
Some of the Most Egregious Offences:
- May 17: Officers clocked a vehicle going 209 km/h, resulting in a stunt driving charge.
- May 18: A street racing incident led to a violent crash where a car ran a red light, struck a pickup truck, and caused it to flip. The driver of the silver vehicle involved was charged with dangerous operation, stunt driving, and racing a motor vehicle.
In addition to stunt driving, charges included:
- 125 counts of unnecessary noise
- Numerous other criminal and provincial traffic offences
Enforcement Totals:
- 130+ arrests
- 2,100+ total charges
- 684 vehicles stopped
- about 100 vehicles seized
Peel Police are urging the public to play a role in traffic safety by reporting reckless drivers. Anyone who witnesses dangerous driving can contact Road Safety Services at 905-453-3311, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or submit a report online through Road Watch. Dashcam or cellphone video evidence can also be uploaded via the department’s evidence submission portal.
Police say efforts like Project ERASE are critical to keeping roads safe and deterring drivers who put the public at risk with dangerous and aggressive behaviour behind the wheel.
