A 14-year-old boy from Oshawa is facing multiple charges after allegedly making threats toward students and staff at a local elementary school, triggering a large-scale police response.
Durham Regional Police were called to Harmony Heights Public School, located at 590 Galahad Drive, at approximately 1:55 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026, after a threatening phone call was made to the school. As a precaution, the school was placed in a hold and secure while officers arrived and searched the building. Students were later released in a staggered manner once the school was deemed safe.
Police determined the threat was made by a student at a different school. The youth was taken into custody without incident and later released on an undertaking.
The teen has been charged with uttering threats, mischief, common nuisance, public mischief, conveying false information, and criminal harassment.
Police emphasized that while the threat was not real, its impact was significant, diverting emergency resources, causing fear within the school community, and distressing parents and staff. Authorities are urging parents and guardians to speak with their children about the serious consequences of making false threats.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Dellipizzi of the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 2766. Anonymous tips can be provided to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca.
