Today, Caroline Mulroney, President of the Treasury Board, announced that starting January 5, 2026, all Ontario Public Service employees and staff at provincial agencies, boards, and commissions, will work in the office five days a week.
The government says this change reflects current workplace standards in both the public and private sectors. It also aligns with the goal of serving people and businesses across Ontario more effectively.
Currently, more than half of public service employees already work in the office full time. On October 20, 2025, those who attend at least three days a week will move to four days a week. This is part of a gradual transition to the new standard.
The government says this shift will strengthen Ontario’s competitiveness, resilience, and self-reliance.
