Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit say a suspect has been arrested while another remains at large following a fatal shooting earlier this year in Vaughan.
Police say the shooting happened on Monday, January 26, 2026, at around 1 p.m., when officers were called to a commercial plaza near Winges Road and Rowntree Dairy Road after reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside a business.
The victim was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, prompting a homicide investigation. The victim was identified as Sergio Lopes, 65, of the City of Richmond Hill.
Following weeks of investigation and collaboration with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers from the OPP James Bay Detachment located and arrested Jacob Wallace, 19, of Mississauga, on March 5, 2026, in the town of Moosonee.
Wallace has been charged with:
First-degree murder
Arson causing damage to property
Police say another suspect remains wanted in connection with the case. A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Isaiah Thomas Badger, 19, of Edmonton.
Investigators warn that Badger is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him is urged not to approach and to contact police immediately.
Badger is wanted on charges of:
First-degree murder
Arson causing damage to property
Police are encouraging the accused to seek legal counsel and turn himself in. York Regional Police also thanked the Toronto Police Service Homicide and Missing Persons Unit and the Ontario Provincial Police for their assistance in the investigation.
