Ontario has suspended the OINP Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream immediately due to findings of systematic misrepresentation. The province will no longer accept new applications, and all current and pending applications will be returned, meaning applicants can no longer seek a provincial nomination through this stream.

While talking to Red FM  Toronto ,Ontario NDP MPP Alexa Gilmore strongly criticized the government’s move, saying the Auditor General had pointed out problems within the program itself, and it was the Ministry of Labour’s responsibility to fix those issues ;not to punish applicants. She said the suspension unfairly blames hardworking immigrant workers rather than acknowledging ministry errors. According to her, the government’s action is neither fair nor transparent.

Gilmore emphasized that this issue is not just about refunding fees, it is about justice. Workers who came legally, are filling labour shortages, and contributing to the economy deserve a fair and transparent reassessment of their applications. She said the NDP will continue pressuring the government to restore all suspended applications, conduct proper evaluations, and protect the reputation of honest immigrants.
