Multiple arrests after demonstration and counter-demonstration in downtown Toronto

The Toronto Police Service says eight people have been arrested and 29 charges laid following a demonstration and counter-demonstration at Nathan Phillips Square on Saturday, January 10. 

Police were called to the area of Queen Street West and Bay Street around 2 p.m. Officers allege a large group gathered for both a demonstration and counter-demonstration, during which participants caused disturbances, assaulted one another, and became combative with police. Three people are accused of assaulting police officers. 

A total of nine arrests were initially made; following further investigation, one individual was released unconditionally without charges. 

Those charged include:  

  • Mahnoor Mohyuddin, 25, of Milton 
  • Jennifer Vong, 35, of Toronto 
  • Kyle Stephens, 35, of Toronto 
  • Woodrow Fraser-Boychuk, 31, of Toronto 
  • Abe Berglas, 23, of Ottawa  
  • Darcy Belanger, 50, of Toronto 
  • Bryn Williams, 24, of Toronto  
  • Charles Kaakee, 27, of Toronto
