While enforcement often draws the most attention, CBSA officers across Ontario are also responsible for managing the movement of millions of legitimate travellers and goods each year. In 2025, the Southern Ontario Region welcomed approximately 16.5 million individuals, accounting for nearly half of all land border travellers nationwide. The GTA Region handled more than 13 million travellers, representing a significant share of Canada’s total air travel volume.

CBSA officers play a crucial role in ensuring that this high volume of travel moves efficiently while maintaining security. Their responsibilities range from inspections and customs processing to emergency response. Earlier this year, CBSA personnel at Toronto Pearson International Airport were recognized for their leadership during the emergency response to a crash-landing involving a commercial flight, supporting passengers and first responders during a high-pressure situation.

Ontario is also home to key CBSA operational hubs and national leadership, reinforcing the province’s central role in border management. From land crossings and airports to mail processing centres and marine ports, CBSA operations across Ontario balance facilitation and enforcement — ensuring borders remain secure while keeping the province and the country connected.
