Investigators with the Peel Regional Police have laid multiple drug-related charges against a 23-year-old man following a late-night collision and foot pursuit in Mississauga earlier this month.

Police say officers from the 11 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) responded to a two-vehicle crash shortly before 11 p.m. on Jan. 9 at the intersection of Hurontario Street and Elm Drive. The collision involved a black Hyundai Elantra and a black Range Rover Evoque.

Witnesses reported that the driver of the Range Rover fled the scene on foot. With the assistance of the Air Support Unit, police were able to track the suspect in the area. During the pursuit, officers observed the individual discarding bags while attempting to evade police.

The suspect was arrested a short time later with the help of the Canine Unit and 11 Division CIB investigators. Police say the discarded bags contained large quantities of drugs believed to be fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of approximately $200,000.

Following the arrest, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in Mississauga, where additional quantities of methamphetamine and cash were seized.

As a result of the investigation, 23-year-old Nitin Malik has been charged with the following offences:

  • Failure to Stop After an Accident
  • Fail to Comply with a Release Order
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Schedule I Cocaine
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Schedule I Methamphetamine
