Marten Falls First Nation signs deal with Ontario to accelerate Ring of Fire Road Project
Marten Falls First Nation has signed a new agreement with the Ontario government aimed at fast-tracking the development of a road to the Ring of Fire mineral region.
Under the agreement, the province will provide Marten Falls with approximately $40 million. The funding will support the construction of a new multi-purpose community centre, supply materials for this year’s winter road, and cover other essential infrastructure projects.
In return, Marten Falls has committed to completing the environmental assessment for the Marten Falls Access Road by February, enabling construction to begin by August.
The province recently reached a similar deal with Webequie First Nation.Together, the two First Nations are leading environmental assessments for three separate roads that will ultimately connect Webequie, the Ring of Fire region, Marten Falls, and the provincial highway system.
