Toronto police are asking for the public’s help to locate a man who allegedly escaped from a detention centre by impersonating another inmate.

Police say 32-year-old Steven Alexander Guzman Marroquin escaped custody Monday from the Toronto South Detention Centre after posing as an inmate scheduled for release. Investigators allege he was fitted with an ankle monitoring device, which was later removed at a nearby gas station.

Guzman Marroquin, of Toronto, is wanted on multiple charges, including escaping lawful custody, personation with intent, and obstructing a police officer.

He is described as five-foot-nine, approximately 200 pounds, with a ponytail and beard. Police say he is considered dangerous and are urging anyone with information to call 911 and not approach him.
