A 29-year-old man has been charged following a serious hit-and-run collision in Markham that left a pedestrian with life-altering injuries.
York Regional Police say the incident occurred on February 19, 2026, around 3:41 p.m., at the intersection of Denison Street and Featherstone Avenue. The victim was struck and carried approximately 50 metres on the hood of the vehicle before being found east of the intersection.
She was rushed to a trauma centre, where she remains in serious condition.
Nearly a month later, on March 20, investigators arrested the suspect after executing search warrants at properties in Richmond Hill, Oshawa, and Toronto. Police say they recovered the vehicle involved in the collision, along with a quantity of controlled substances.
Investigators allege the accused attempted to conceal his identity and repair damage to the vehicle following the crash.
Authorities are now appealing to the public for assistance, particularly from anyone who may have sold parts or unknowingly carried out repairs on the vehicle.
Nathan Kumar Persaud, 29, of Oshawa, faces multiple charges, including dangerous operation causing bodily harm, failing to stop after an accident, and drug trafficking-related offences.
Anyone with information, including witnesses or those with dashcam footage, is urged to contact York Regional Police 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7704, or anonymously Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
