A 34-year-old Oshawa man is facing charges after allegedly making threats toward co-workers at a Whitby business earlier this week.
Durham Regional Police say officers were called to the Durham Region Waste Management Facility 1640 on Ritson Road North on Monday, February 2, 2026, after an employee reportedly made threatening comments toward other staff members.
Investigators later located the suspect at his residence, where he was taken into custody without incident. Police say the man’s legally owned firearms were voluntarily surrendered at the time of his arrest.
Damien Johnston, 34, of Oshawa, has been charged with uttering threats. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Police are asking anyone who may have cell phone video, dash-cam footage, surveillance video, or information related to the incident to contact the Central West Division Criminal Investigations Branch.
Police note that the allegations have not yet been proven in court.
