A 29-year-old man is facing 32 criminal and provincial charges following a dangerous and high-speed attempt to evade police early Saturday morning.

Officers from the York Regional Police #4 District in Vaughan first spotted a stolen Dodge Caravan being driven erratically at around 2:40 a.m. on November 29, 2025, near the York Regional Police #4 District Headquarters on Rutherford Road. When police attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver fled immediately, triggering a major pursuit.

The police air support unit, Air2, already in the vicinity, took over surveillance as the minivan sped through multiple red lights without headlights, swerved dangerously across lanes, and even drove the wrong way on Major Mackenzie Drive West in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada.

Mid-chase, the suspect stopped in a residential driveway near Dufferin Street and Teston Road, where he attempted to steal another vehicle. According to police, the attempt failed, after which he returned to the minivan and resumed driving recklessly.

A second containment attempt by officers near Bathurst Street and Autumn Hill Boulevard was also breached when the driver broke past police lines and fled again.

To bring the chase to an end, officers deployed a tire deflation device, successfully disabling two tires of the vehicle. The suspect continued driving until entering an underground parking garage on Antibes Drive in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where he abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot.

Police responded swiftly, arresting him inside the parking facility without further incident.

Investigators later confirmed that the minivan had been reported stolen on November 27 in Toronto. Additional investigation linked the suspect to two earlier commercial break-and-enter incidents ; one on November 15 in Richmond Hill, and the second on November 21 in Toronto.

Authorities also revealed that his driver’s licence had been suspended since 2023 by the Ministry of Transportation Ontario, and he had been operating the stolen vehicle despite that suspension.

The man was also found to have had a suspended licence prior to the incident, dating back to 2023.

Police are appealing to the public for further information. Anyone with details is urged to contact the #4 District York Regional Police Criminal Investigations Bureau at extension 7441, or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers of York Region.
