Vaughan, ON – A man is dead following a home invasion in Vaughan early Sunday, according to York Regional Police.
Police identified the victim as 46-year-old Abdul Aleem Farooqi in a news release issued later that day.
Officers were called to a residence near Andreeta Drive and Barons Street around 1 a.m. for reports of a home invasion. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from significant injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
York police’s homicide unit is now investigating and say the incident appears to have been targeted.
Investigators are searching for at least three suspects, all described as wearing dark clothing and face coverings at the time of the attack.
Police have asked residents to avoid the area during the active investigation and expect a heavy police presence throughout Sunday.
