Peel Regional Police have charged four people after a loaded firearm was discovered during a vehicle stop in Brampton.
The incident happened at approximately 11 p.m. on January 21, when patrol officers stopped a vehicle for investigating a cannabis-related violation. During the investigation, officers searched the vehicle and located a concealed, loaded illegal handgun inside on one occupant.
As a result of the investigation, three of the occupants were arrested and held in custody for bail hearings, while a fourth individual was also charged.
Traevon Pinnock-Smith, a 22-year-old man from Brampton, has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, occupying a motor vehicle while knowing there was an unauthorized prohibited or restricted weapon present, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, and possession of prohibited ammunition or a device while knowing its possession was unauthorized.
Cassie Kerridge, a 23-year-old woman from Toronto, has been charged with occupying a motor vehicle while knowing there was unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon. She also faces a charge under the Cannabis Control Act for driving a vehicle with cannabis in open original packaging.
Keyante Henry-Spencer, a 23-year-old woman from Toronto, and Jonathan Anderson, a 22-year-old man from Brampton, were each charged with occupying a motor vehicle while knowing there was unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon.
Police say the arrests are part of ongoing proactive enforcement efforts. Over the past 48 hours, officers from 22 Division have seized two loaded handguns during the course of their patrol duties.
