Toronto, ON – Toronto drivers should prepare for traffic disruptions this weekend as the Honda Indy returns to the city, bringing fast-paced racing action — and several major road closures.

The three-day motorsport event officially kicks off Friday morning, with practice sessions, fan activities, and qualifying races, all leading up to the IndyCar Series main event on Sunday.

What to Expect

  • Friday: Gates open at 9 a.m. with fan access to practice rounds, autograph sessions, food vendors, and interactive exhibits.
  • Saturday: Qualifying races begin around 8:30 a.m., followed by a full day of racing.
  • Sunday: Final races are scheduled for 2:20 p.m., 2:50 p.m., and 3:45 p.m..

Road Closures in Effect

The event has triggered several significant road closures around Exhibition Place:

  • Southbound Strachan Avenue from Fleet Street to Lake Shore Boulevard West is closed until Monday at 1 a.m.
  • Lake Shore Boulevard West is closed in both directions between Strachan Avenue and British Columbia Road, with the closure also lasting until Monday at 1 a.m.

Event organizers are urging fans to avoid driving and instead use public transit to access the area. The GO Lakeshore West line to Exhibition Station is being promoted as the most efficient route.

To support the influx of racegoers, the TTC is running additional service on the 29 Dufferin, 509 Harbourfront, and 511 Bathurst routes through Sunday. Extra transit staff will be on hand at Union Station and Exhibition Loop to help direct riders.

The City of Toronto has confirmed that the cost of the road closures is being covered entirely by Honda Indy organizers, including compensation for occupying public roadways.
