Hamilton police investigate distraction thefts targeting seniors

Hamilton Police Service is investigating a distraction-style theft that took place at the Fortino’s in Hamilton. 

Police say that on Tuesday, December 6, 2025, around 3:00 p.m., an elderly woman was approached while shopping at the store located at 1579 Main Street West. Four suspects allegedly worked together to divert her attention, steal her wallet from her purse, and obtain her PIN.  

The suspects later used her debit and credit cards to withdraw about $3,500 in cash and make roughly $750 in additional purchases. Investigators believe the four individuals were acting together and are asking for the public’s help to identify them. 

Suspect descriptions: 

Suspect 1: Older male, wearing a dark winter coat, dark flat cap, and glasses, dark pants and shoes and red gloves observed 

Suspect 2: Wearing a navy blue Nike jacket, black knit toque and a light-coloured scarf and dark pants 

Suspect 3: Male, grey knit toque with a logo, dark jacket with a light-coloured hood and carrying a red bottle 

Suspect 4: Wearing a light-coloured winter jacket, fur-lined hat and scarf and pushing a shopping cart
