Peel Regional Police have placed three officers on administrative suspension as a sweeping corruption investigation continues to ripple beyond Toronto’s police service.

The suspensions are linked to a months-long probe led by York Regional Police, which earlier this week resulted in the arrest of seven Toronto police officers and one retired constable. None of the Peel officers have been charged.

In a statement to CBC News, Peel police spokesperson Const. Tyler Bell-Morena confirmed the suspensions, saying the officers have been sidelined “pending further investigation by York Regional Police.” He declined to provide additional details, citing the need to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

The York Regional Police inquiry was launched last summer following allegations of a conspiracy to kill a corrections official. Investigators have said it is too early to determine whether other police services may be implicated.

CBC News reached out to several police forces across the Greater Toronto Area. Halton Regional Police confirmed that none of its officers are suspended or facing charges in connection with the investigation at this time.

The investigation remains active.
