GTA Municipalities seek more rights to take decisions on cannabis stores limit and location

Municipalities in the Greater Toronto Area are concerned with the rapid growth of cannabis stores and their clustering in downtown locations. Ontario NDP MPP Merit Stiles has presented a private member’s bill that demands that municipalities be given more say in how many cannabis retail shops are allowed in an area, aligning the licensing system closer to that of liquor retailers. City of Brampton’s Councillor Harkirat Singh explains why municipalities need more power to make decisions on cannabis retail and shares his experience of managing issues related to cannabis retail in the city on the Evening Show with Jatinder Gidda and Daksh Panwar.
