Elderly woman dies after Newmarket residential fire

An elderly woman has died after a house fire in Newmarket on Friday morning, according to York Regional Police. 

Emergency crews were called to a home on Kirby Crescent at approximately 6:36 a.m. for reports of a residential structure fire. Central York Fire Services and police attended the scene. 

Police said in a post on social media that the elderly female occupant was rescued from the residence and transported to hospital in life-threatening condition, where She later died from her injuries.

Two adult men were also taken to hospital with minor injuries. 

The Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified and is expected to attend the scene to assist with the investigation. Police say officers will remain on site until the Fire Marshal’s examination is complete. 

Officials say the investigation is being led by Central York Fire Services and, at this time, there is no evidence to suggest the fire is suspicious.
