Toronto police have arrested and charged a driver in connection with a fatal collision that occurred on Tuesday last week in the area of Dundas Street West and Acorn Avenue.
In a news release, police say officers were called to the area of Dundas Street West and Acorn Avenue at around 7:17 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, after reports of a serious personal injury collision. Investigators allege that a 28-year-old man was crossing Dundas Street West at Acorn Avenue when he was struck by a grey Toyota RAV4 travelling eastbound through the intersection.
The pedestrian was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene following the crash.
On Monday, February 9, 2026, police arrested 25-year-old Joseph Daniel Alvarado Portillo of Mississauga. He has been charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance. Alvarado Portillo was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Finch Avenue West later that day.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Traffic Services. Police are asking anyone in the area at the time — including residents, business owners, or drivers with dashcam or security footage — to come forward.
