Toronto, Ontario-The City of Toronto has officially launched its Summer at Old City Hall series, offering free public events to celebrate and showcase local heritage at one of Toronto’s most iconic historic buildings. Starting Friday, July 11, the 126-year-old national historic site will host weekly programming every Friday through August, with additional events on select Thursdays and weekends.
As part of this initiative, visitors can enjoy Courtyard Open Days where they can relax, socialize, and admire the restored heritage architecture — including the clock tower’s original gargoyles. Special exhibitions include Millennium City, a photo exhibit highlighting life in Toronto from 2000 to 2010, and Toronto Civic Art, a digital display of artworks from the city’s collection. On July 26 and August 23, the Toronto Treasures and Block by Block exhibitions will explore the city’s diverse history through museum collections and community oral histories. Expert talks led by City Archivist Neil Brochu will also take place every Friday in July at noon.
The City is also introducing civil wedding ceremonies at Old City Hall’s former Council Chamber starting Thursday, July 24. These non-religious ceremonies will be officiated by city staff and are available by appointment only. Interested couples can contact marriage@toronto.ca for bookings.
All events will run between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., and details are available at www.toronto.ca/OldCityHall. Mayor Olivia Chow expressed her support, noting the importance of reconnecting residents and visitors with Toronto’s architectural treasures while city staff continue planning for Old City Hall’s long-term future.
This summer programming is part of a broader effort to reimagine Old City Hall as a vibrant civic space that honors the city’s past while serving its present and future communities.
