A car meet-up at Brampton Plaza turned chaotic on the night of August 16 around 10 p.m., when Peel Regional Police were called to the area of Great Lakes Drive and Bovaird Drive East near Trinity Common Mall.
Reports indicated that a large crowd had gathered for a car rally, where vehicles were allegedly racing and performing stunts.
When officers arrived, they noticed a vehicle driving dangerously. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver tried to flee. Officers quickly surrounded the car to prevent a prolonged chase.
After the vehicle was stopped, the driver attempted to escape on foot but was caught shortly after a brief foot chase.
The suspect, 21-year-old Ajaypreet Sidhu of Brampton, was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Racing a motor vehicle
- Unnecessary noise
- No muffler
- Obstructing a licence plate
- Driving in violation of emission regulations
- Failing to surrender a licence
- Public nuisance
- Flight from police
He was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. His driver’s licence has been suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.
Police have said they will continue regular patrols at plazas like Trinity Common Mall and warned that illegal activities — including unsanctioned gatherings, dangerous driving, public drinking, use of fireworks, and excessive noise — will not be tolerated.
