Canada eliminates Digital Services Tax on tech giants

Canada and the United States are back on table to restart trade talks after Canada announcing to drop digital services tax.

Trump announced on Friday to suspend all negotiations with Canada till Canada drops this tax.

PM Carney spoke with President Trump on Sunday and announced to eliminate the tax immediately. Meanwhile, a White House spokesperson announced to restart the talks immediately.

Three percent levy was applied on revenue from Canadian users to big tech companies including Amazon, Google, Meta, Uber and Airbnb.

The first payment was due soon and was retroactive to 2022. It could have cost US companies US$ 2 billion.
