Peel Regional Police have arrested a Brampton man following a stolen vehicle investigation that ended in a collision with a police cruiser.

Investigators with the Commercial Auto Crime Bureau, along with officers from 21 Division, say a semi-trailer truck was reported stolen on Sunday, December 21, from a repair shop near East Drive and Torbram Road in Brampton.

The following day, police located the stolen truck in the area of Williams Parkway and Humberwest Parkway. Investigators say the truck was towing a trailer that had also been reported stolen from the Halton Region earlier that weekend.

When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver allegedly failed to stop and instead struck a fully marked police cruiser, causing extensive damage. No injuries were reported.

Police say the stolen truck continued to travel until it became inoperable. The driver then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended following a brief foot pursuit.

The accused has been identified as Nirmal Singh, 42, of Brampton. He has been charged with multiple Criminal Code offences, including:

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (five counts)

Flight from Police

Dangerous Operation

Possession of Break-In Instruments

Possession of an Automobile Master Key

Investigators also determined that Singh was driving while under a Canada-wide driving prohibition. As a result, he faces an additional eight counts of Operation While Prohibited.

Singh was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
