Firefighters in Brampton responded to a two-alarm house fire overnight that sent at least one person to hospital for assessment.

Emergency crews were called just after midnight to a home on Tumbleweed Trail, near Mavis Road and Steeles Avenue West, following reports of a fire in the basement. Brampton Fire and Emergency Services confirmed that all residents were able to get out of the house safely.

By about 12:40 a.m., firefighters were working to knock down heavy smoke and flames. Roughly 30 minutes later, crews said the fire was under control, though firefighters remained on scene to check for hot spots and ensure it did not flare up again.

Photos from the scene showed paramedics placing one individual on a stretcher and loading them into an ambulance. The nature and extent of the person’s injuries have not been disclosed.

Fire officials say the cause of the blaze has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
