Peel Regional Police have arrested a 34-year-old man following a stolen vehicle investigation in Brampton.
Police say a vehicle was reported stolen from a car dealership near Kennedy Road and Queen Street East on Thursday, December 18, 2025. Two days later, on Saturday, December 20, officers on routine patrol spotted the stolen vehicle at around 9:45 p.m. in the area of Queen Street West and McMurchy Avenue South.
Officers followed the vehicle to a nearby parking lot, where the driver exited the car and fled on foot. With the assistance of the Aerial Support Unit and Canine Unit, police located the suspect hiding beside a nearby residence.
The suspect, Julius Layug, 34, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with multiple Criminal Code offences, including:
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (two counts)
Fail to Comply with Release Order
Possession of an Automobile Master Key
Possession of a Controlled Substance
Further investigation revealed that Layug was a prohibited driver and subject to seven separate Criminal Code driving prohibition orders. As a result, he was also charged with seven counts of Operation While Prohibited.
Layug was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
