Peel Regional Police are reviewing their actions after a second victim in a fatal crash was not found until hours later at an impound yard.
The crash happened around 4:20 a.m. on Nov. 1 near Chinguacousy Road and Queen Street in Brampton. A Honda Civic and another vehicle were involved. Emergency crews found a 31 yearold man named Sukhdev Singh dead inside the Civic and removed his body. At the time, police say there was no clear sign that anyone else was in the car.
Both vehicles were then towed to the police impound yard for further examination.
Hours later, police received a missing person report for a 20-year-old woman. A shared tracking app showed that her last known location was the crash site. Officers returned to the scene and also inspected the Civic again at the impound yard.
During the closer check, officers found the woman’s remains embedded in the rear of the severely damaged car. Brampton firefighters used specialized equipment to extricate her body.
Police say they are reviewing how the initial response was handled.
“We recognize the profound impact of this tragedy and ask that the privacy of the families involved be respected,” police said in a statement.
The driver of the second vehicle, a young offender who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with dangerous driving causing death and failure to comply with a demand.
